Man jailed 2 years for using fake currency notes to shop from a supermarket
A man has been sentenced to two years imprisonment after being found guilty of circulating fake currency notes.
Chimankpa Nwakuna, an alleged counterfeit currency dealer, was charged to court by the EFCC, after he was arrested by the DSS in Imo state in January 2016.
He was nabbed as he attempted to buy some items from a supermarket with some of the currencies. Following his arrest, a search was carried out on him and more fake currency notes were found in his possession.
Nwakuna earlier pleaded guilty to all the three counts levelled against him. He claimed that one of his friends, Godwin, who he lent some money to paid him back with fake currencies.
However, he later changed his plea from "guilty" to "not guilty".
But one of the prosecution witnesses from the Department of State Security Services said that N1000 notes amounting to N9,000 fake currency were found on Nwakuna.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission shared the news of his sentencing on their Facebook page.

The Enugu Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today, Thursday, June 7, 2018 obtained the conviction of one Chimankpa Nwakuna, who has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by Hon. Justice Lewis Algoa of the Federal High Court , Owerri on a three -count charge that bothers on possession of counterfeit currency.

Nwakuna was arrested sometimes in January 2016 by the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) Imo State Command upon a tip-off that the convict belongs to a syndicate that specializes in circulation of fake currency notes.

Upon the arrest of the convict when he attempted to buy some items from a super market with some of the currencies, a search was conducted on him where several other pieces of fake currency notes were found on him leading to his being handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC South East Zonal office for investigation and prosecution.

Young man stabbed to death by gang of dangerous youths in Adamawa after he refused to hand over his phone (photo)

A young man identified as Mohammed Danladi Lade was killed in Yola, Adamawa state. According to family members, the deceased, a graduate of the Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola, was stabbed to death with dagger by members of a notorious gang called Shila during Sallah celebration on Monday,  June 18, at Polo ground in Yola Town. It was gathered that the gang attacked him and tried to snatch his phone but he refused to hand it over. They then stabbed him with a dagger.
